Jefferson Belmont SWA Starts Dry Cell Battery Recycling Drop-Off Program
The Jefferson Belmont Regional Solid Waste Authority, in partnership with several businesses and organizations in Belmont and Jefferson Counties, has started a Dry Cell Battery Recycling Drop-Off Program. The JBRSWA determined a need to help residents safely dispose of a variety of batteries. These include alkaline, NiMH, NiCad, Zinc Air, Non-Lithium Button Cell, Primary Lithium, Lithium-Ion and Sealed Lead Acid batteries.
Proper disposal of batteries reduce the amount of hazardous material in landfills. When bringing batteries to the recycling sites, residents should follow proper disposal techniques. JBRSWA asks residents to place each individual battery in a plastic bag or to place tape on the battery terminals before depositing in the battery recycling container. Plastic bags will be available at each site.
Batteries should never be left at the JBRSWA recycling sites. They are considered to be a hazardous material and must be disposed of properly. Car and other vehicle batteries are also not accepted at either the JBRSWA sites or at the Dry Cell Battery drop off sites.
The Battery Recycling Containers are located at the following sites. The Ohio University Eastern, Franciscan University and the Eastern Gateway Community College sites are for students and school staff only. All other sites are open to the public.
